Hoymiles microinverter reliability explained: Agrivoltaics application

What is agrivoltaics and why does it matter?

Agrivoltaics, as the name suggests, is a form of solar application that combines agriculture and photovoltaics (PV). It represents an eco-friendly way to produce food and graze livestocks, particularly when demand for renewable energy is surging and the need for efficient land use is clear to see.

In agrivoltaic systems, PV modules or solar panels are installed above farmland or pasture. This setup allows the system to generate electricity without interfering with crop planting or animal husbandry.

This method guarantees a host of benefits:

  • It increases the efficiency of land resources. This practice of “getting two for the price of one” is particularly attractive for regions with limited land.
  • The decreasing cost of PV power generation has made these systems more economically competitive.
  • Agrivoltaic systems enable synergy between agriculture and PV,creating an additional source of income for agriculture and animal husbandry and tapping into the immense potential of solar energy.

In this blog, which is also the third of a series dealing with the reliability of Hoymiles microinverters, we will explore why our products are ideal for agrivoltaic applications. You can refer to our first and second posts to learn more about our microinverters.

Why Hoymiles microinverters are the best choice for agrivoltaics

Agrivoltaics presents different challenges from cities, requiring stricter standards for PV components, including PV microinverters.

Hoymiles microinverters have passed a series of rigorous reliability tests, ensuring they are suitable for use across various different scenarios, no matter how challenging they are.

  1. Ammonia testing

Ammonia testing evaluates the durability and reliability of electrical and electronic equipment in environments containing ammonia. In ammonia testing, equipment is placed in an environment containing ammonia gas to simulate real-life contamination conditions. This is to see if the equipment can maintain its performance and longevity in harsh environmental conditions.

Some countries and regions have regulations or standards that require equipment to be tested in specific scenarios to ensure that it can operate safely and reliably. These regulations and standards typically apply to sites such as industrial production sites, chemical plants, farms, and breeding grounds, where leaks of corrosive gases such as ammonia may occur.

  1. Mixed gas testing:

Mixed gas testing evaluates the durability and reliability of electrical and electronic equipment in specific environments contaminated with multiple gases. It typically exposes equipment to conditions that simulate the complex atmospheric conditions found in locations such as industrial production sites, chemical plants, and wastewater treatment plants, among others. Regulations and standards in certain countries and regions require mixed gas testing to ensure the safe and reliable operation of equipment in these environments.

These tests involve a combination of gases, such as hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and methane, depending on specific industries and environments.

We have created three blogs to illustrate why Hoymiles microinverters are a reliable choice for your PV applications in various scenarios. Our belief in delivering open energy for all extends to creating products that can handle diverse and challenging conditions, ensuring the widest applications possible. To deliver on our mission, we have, and will always,  build truly durable microinverters and other solar products.
